The
Taipei Philharmonic Chorus was founded in 1972 and, through the efforts
of its conductors, has established an extensive repertoire and a reputation
as one of the most prestigious choruses in Taiwan. Members of the chorus
are music lovers from all walks of life. Their love of music, combined
with the vision of the conductors, has allowed the Taipei Philharmonic
Chorus to greatly increase the number of performances it gives each year.
Because it is one of the leading performing groups in Taiwan, the Taipei
Philharmonic Chorus was sponsored by the Council for Cultural Planning
and Development from 1994 to 1996 under a program of "Support for
International Artistic Groups" and again from 1997 to 2002 as an
"Outstanding Performing Groups".
From the 140-voice chorus, a smaller 40-voice choir is selected to tour
and to perform more select musical works. This group, known as the "Taipei
Philharmonic Chamber Choir" has an impressive history of overseas
performances. It not only participates in various International Choral
Festivals and annually goes abroad for a tour of concerts but also is
active at home, co-operating with the government "Community Development
Scheme" by giving highly appreciated concerts in the cultural centers
of small, local towns and villages.
The "Image China" album awarded the 8th Golden Melody Award
for the "Best Performance", "Best Record Producing"
and "Best Classical Record" categories; The "Maiden of
Malan" album awarded the 9th Golden Melody Award for the "Best
Composer"; The "Snows in June" album was nominated the
11th Golden Melody Award for the "Best Composer" and "Best
Classical Record"; The "I Am Flying" album was nominated
the 12th Golden Melody Award for the "Best Composer", "Best
Record Producing" and "Best Classical Record" The latest
"Buddhist Requiem" album is nominated the 13th Golden Melody
Award for the "Best Composer", "Best Producer", "Best
Religious Music" and "Best Performer".

Major performances
of the Taipei Philharmonic Chorus & Chamber Choir in recent years:
1993 Invited to the "Atlanta International Choral Festival"
it was the only group rewarded a standing ovation; touring concerts in
New York and Los Angeles.
1994 Touring concerts given in Vienna, Austria; Cambridge and London,
England, performed at the "Classical Music Festival" in Einsenstadt,
Austria, and the "Seoul World Choral Festival" in Korea.
1995 In July, invited to perform Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 with the Asian
Youth Orchestra in Hong Kong and Taipei. In September, invited to the
"International Choral Workshop" in Munich, Germany, and then
participated in the Fourth International Chamber Choir Festival.
1996 In March, invited to give three concerts at the Chinese Information
and Culture Center in New York under the recommendation of the Council
for Cultural Affairs. In August, invited to the Fourth World Choral Festival
in Sydney Australia as one of the 26 representatives from around the world.
1997 In March, the "Image China" album awarded the Golden Melody
Award for the "Best Performance", "Best Record Producing"
and "Best Classical Record" categories. In July, invited to
Budapest, Hungary and subsequently participated in the "Copenhagen
Choral Festival" in Denmark. Premiere performance of Professor Nan-chang
Chien "A Suite of Taiwan’s Aboriginal Folk Songs--The Maiden of Malan"
with a famous local chorus and orchestra.
1998 The "A Suite of Taiwan’s Aboriginal Folk Songs "The Maiden
of Malan" album awarded the Golden Melody Award for the "Best
Composer"
1999 Invited Hungarian conductor, Gabor Hollerung, for an entire concert
of Hungarian choral works; In July performed in Namur, Budapest and Eger.
In November, invited to the "Chinese Art Festival" in Hong Kong.
2000 In August, the Taipei Philharmonic Chamber Choir is invited to Canada
for "Festival Vancouver" and go to Calgary and Banff for tour
concerts.
2001 Invited to Singapore for "Asia South Pacific Symposium on Choral
Music" and have a concert tour in Malaysia in August.
2002 Invited to Busan, Seoul and Inchon, Korea for concert tour in February.
And is invited to Minnesota, U. S. A. for the "Sixth World Symposium
on Choral Music", and have concert tour in San Francisco, Philadelphia
in August.
