University of Mindanao Chorale to perform at Taipei festival
Taipei, July 18 (CNA) The University of Mindanao Chorale from Davao City, the Philippines, will perform at the upcoming Taipei International Choral Festival (TICF), making it the first internationally invited group to physically appear at the event in three years.
The 2022 TICF, the 22nd edition of the annual festival, will be held from June 30 to Aug. 7, with the University of Mindanao Chorale, the official choral group of the University of Mindanao from Davao City, to be the first international group at the event since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, according to the organizers.
The award-winning choral group will perform at Taichung Chung Shan Hall on Aug. 2 before performing with various Taiwanese groups at the National Concert Hall in Taipei on Aug. 5 and Aug. 6.
The University of Mindanao Chorale was founded in 1993 and over the years has won numerous awards, including the grand prize at the National Music Competitions for Young Artists in 2015 in the Philippines.
The group went on to win two Grand Prix Competitions, the ninth Orientale Concentus in Singapore in 2016, and the Busan Choral Festival and Competitions in 2017. It was also a finalist at the first Tokyo International Choir Competition in 2018, before clinching third place at the NAMCYA 2019.
In addition to performances by the University of Mindanao Chorale, the 2022 TICF has also invited international conductors Anthony Trecek-King of the United States and Gábor Hollerung of Hungary to hold online lectures on Aug. 2 and Aug. 4, respectively.

The TICF has invited over 90 international choral groups, 150 renowned conductors, and 3,000 singers to take part in the festival since it began in 1996.
